OFF OFF BROADWAY
I wish I could remember the motivation for this piece!

WEEK TWENTY...DAY ONE

BASQUIAT'S CHOW
I had to sacrifice this piece for the Artists Matz.
I just couldn't locate enough images of Basquiat's artwork
in the magazines I had
so I utilized this work he did featuring
Mr. Chow of the famous Beverly Hills restaurant.

WEEK NINETEEN...DAY SEVEN

LEAF BOWL
This was an engineering marvel.
A cookie cutter was used for the leaves.
The tricky part was glazing and having it keeps it's shape in the firing.

WEEK NINETEEN...DAY SIX

GROW PLANTER
This totally ridiculous book was designed for the PV Library.

WEEK NINETEEN...DAY FIVE

CHEESE PLATES PLUS
Such a perfect vehicle to serve cheese!
Plus one of my favorite jaguar pinch plates.
A sushi tray.
Some other bizarre little square thing I use all the time.
I can look back at these items and realise
I'll never be this prehistoric again!

WEEK NINETEEN...DAY FOUR

BLU BOWLS
My first attempts at throwing on the wheel
imitated the style of Fred Flintstone.
Heavy, uneven, and usually quite short were the norm.
But definitely full of character!

WEEK NINETEEN...DAY THREE

THREE PLATES
In the beginning of working with clay,
one either forms the shape by pinching and manipulating by hand
or rolling out the clay on an industrial size rolling table and slumping it over molds.
I created four plates and bowls with dragon medallions
that are still my favorite pieces to this day.
The fish platter I can't really take any creative credit for,
except maybe choosing the glaze.
And the textured shape was produced by pressing
with wooden dye blocks into the surface before it was slumped.
Not bad for a beginner!

WEEK NINETEEN...DAY TWO

COLOR ME MINE
This is what really got me into ceramics:
I made my husband a Valentine coffee mug
at one of these local craft shops.
Easy enough.
Immediately, I went to something more artistic on a platter.
After having them fire it 3 times to get black instead of blue
I sought out a far superior location to be able to control the results.
The Palos Verdes Art Center
opened the door to a new creative reservoir.

WEEK NINETEEN...DAY ONE

FIRST CERAMIC PIECES
From my very first class
at the Palos Verdes Art Center
 eight years ago.
Pinch pots, slab plate and an extruded vase.
So prehistoric!

WEEK SIXTEEN...DAY FIVE

WESSELMANN
We celebrate Cinco de Mayo
with a true American artist famous for his Nudes.
He was the first contemporary artist
I was introduced to when enrolled in
the School of the Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts
back in the 70s.
